In a recent interview with the Rwanda Broadcast Agency (RBA), President Paul Kagame of Rwanda reaffirmed his commitment to accelerating the country’s development, promising to achieve more in the future than he has in the past.
These comments come as President Kagame prepares for the upcoming election campaign, which begins on June 22, 2024.
He emphasized that Rwanda’s achievements so far demonstrate the power of collective effort. By showcasing what can be achieved when Rwandans work together, he aims to inspire further progress.
“When you show people an example of what’s possible and they see their role in it, it empowers them,” President Kagame explained. “Even if external aid contributes, it doesn’t diminish the value of our own efforts.”
However, he acknowledged that despite significant progress, there is still much work to be done. “We have not yet reached a point where we can be satisfied,” he said. “When people are driven to work hard and achieve great things, they always feel there is more to be done.”
Reflecting on his experience as a leader, President Kagame stated that campaigning offers a chance to review past achievements and share his vision for the future. “Campaigning and potentially being re-elected allows us to discuss what we’ve accomplished and address new aspirations and challenges.”
President Kagame reiterated his dedication to Rwanda’s development, pledging to surpass his past efforts. “What I couldn’t achieve before, I must accomplish now,” he said. “We need to focus on the present and strive for even greater development for everyone who supports us.”
Despite Rwanda’s impressive economic growth, such as last year’s 8% increase, President Kagame noted that many citizens are still unsatisfied. “People want to work harder and achieve more. They ask, ‘Why not 9% or 10% growth?’ The key is to address the remaining challenges.”
