ICK Students Transformative Academic Journey at CHE University

Two students from Institut Catholic de Kabgayi (ICK) recently shared their amazing experiences studying at the University of CHE in the Netherlands.

Marie Joyeuse Akingeneye Iradukunda and Philbert Mbonigaba, studying journalism and communication, spoke about their adventures during their five-month academic journey abroad.

They talked about how teaching methods, cultural experiences, and networking opportunities differed from what they were used to back home.

Iradukunda said, “Studying in the Netherlands changed my life. I learned a lot from great professors, worked with students from various backgrounds, and got a taste of a different culture. It really opened my mind and improved my skills as a future journalist.”

Mbonigaba also shared his thoughts, saying, “The academic challenges at CHE made me think in new ways and boosted my communication skills beyond what I imagined. Learning about different media platforms and technologies prepared me for the ever-changing media industry.”

During their presentation, Iradukunda and Mbonigaba showed how much they had grown and achieved during their time abroad, encouraging their peers to think about studying overseas for personal and professional growth.

Mr. Jean Baptiste Hategekimana, the Dean of the Journalism and Communication Studies Faculty, explained the criteria for selecting students for this opportunity.

He said, “To be eligible for selection, students must have at least 70% marks in their first and second years.”

He also mentioned that the program, which has already sent 8 students to the Netherlands, will continue until 2027, with the number of students increasing from two to three per year.

Their presentation highlighted the benefits of international academic exchanges and how they can shape a student’s education and future career.
