Maresca, 44, is enthusiastic about his new challenge. “To join Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is a dream for any coach. It is why I am so excited by this opportunity,” he said. “I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club’s tradition of success and makes our fans proud.”
Maresca’s coaching career has been marked by notable accomplishments. After working on the coaching staffs of Ascoli, Sevilla, and West Ham United, he took charge of Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad in August 2020, leading them to the 2021 Premier League 2 title. He then had a stint with Parma and served as an assistant coach at Manchester City. In June 2023, Maresca became head coach at Leicester City, where he guided the club to the EFL Championship title and secured promotion to the Premier League in his first season.
Maresca’s staff at Chelsea will include former Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero, Danny Walker, Michele De Bernardin, Marcos Alvarez, Javi Molina, and Roberto Vitiello. Ben Roberts will join as the goalkeeper coach and head of global goalkeeping. Additionally, Bernardo Cueva has been appointed to lead the set-piece department.
