As we reflect on the values of hard work, perseverance, and humility, I am inspired to share a message that celebrates these qualities and encourages all of us to honor every job, no matter how small it may seem.

Through personal experiences and inspiring stories, I hope to motivate you to never underestimate the value of any work you do.

A Personal Journey

After earning my Master’s degree in Food Science and Engineering from a prestigious university abroad, I returned to Rwanda with high hopes for a professional career. However, securing my dream job did not happen immediately, partly due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Instead, I embraced various roles that many might overlook. One such role was as a marketing manager for a steel company in the Southern Province. Despite my engineering background, I dedicated myself to this position with professionalism and enthusiasm.

My dedication paid off. Through diligent research and innovative approaches, I brought significant advancements to the company, which led to me being awarded the Best Employee of 2022-2023.

This experience taught me the importance of respecting every job and performing it to the best of one’s ability. It reminded me of the biblical verse: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters” (Colossians 3:23).

Inspiring Stories and Encouragement

While still working in the steel marketing role, I was deeply moved by a story aired on a famous YouTube channel. It featured a young man, Emmanuel Niyonkuru, studying at the University of Rwanda while working as manpower in the market to secure his basic needs.

His determination and resilience touched my heart. As the marketing manager for the Southern Province at that time, I initiated a plan to provide him with branded clothing to ease his job. I traveled to Butare/Huye to personally give him these branded clothes.

We became friends, and today, I am overjoyed to share that this hardworking gentleman has successfully defended his final dissertation and earned his bachelor’s degree. His journey is a testament to the belief that every job counts. Regardless of the position, every role holds value and contributes to personal and professional growth. This experience has reinforced my belief in the dignity of all work and the importance of perseverance.

To all the youth out there, never underestimate the power of any job, no matter how menial it may seem. Your dedication and hard work can pave the way for future success. As Ecclesiastes 9:10 advises, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all you might.”
