King Faisal Hospital, one of Rwanda’s largest medical centers, is embarking on an ambitious expansion project that will extend until 2050.
As per TNT, the main focus of this project is to enhance its infrastructure and capabilities, particularly by increasing its bed capacity from 167 to 600 beds and introducing new specialized medical services.
Key features of the expansion include:
- Strengthening the oncology department by adding radiotherapy services.
- Introducing additional critical care and accident and emergency services.
- Establishing dedicated units for stroke, spine, and neurology.
- Expanding cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and orthopedic surgery services.
- Introducing advanced procedures like robotic and minimally invasive surgeries.
- Enhancing oncology services with PET scan and cyclotron facilities.
This expansion aims to accommodate more patients and offer a broader range of specialized treatments. Despite the construction and changes, hospital officials assure that services will continue without disruption.
The initial construction phase is set to begin in July, following a meeting between hospital administrators and interested contractors on April 17.
