RDB Issues Festive Season Guidelines for Hospitality Activities

As the festive season kicks off, the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has released guidelines to ensure smooth operations and a safe environment for celebrations.
These guidelines, effective from December 10, 2024, to January 5, 2025, provide temporary operating hours for businesses in the hospitality sector while emphasizing safety and respect for the community.

Extended Operating Hours
Hospitality establishments, including hotels, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, can operate until 2:00 AM from Monday to Thursday.
On Fridays, weekends, and public holidays, these businesses are permitted to remain open throughout the night.

This flexibility is designed to accommodate the festive spirit while maintaining a balance with community needs.
However, businesses are required to comply with noise pollution regulations and respect the rights of those seeking rest.
These rules also apply to private events.

While self-regulation is encouraged, RDB, in collaboration with other government institutions, will monitor compliance with the guidelines.
Any entities found violating these directives will face appropriate consequences.

In light of safety concerns, the following regulations on alcohol consumption are emphasized:

It is illegal to serve alcohol to individuals under the age of 18.
Visibly intoxicated individuals must not be served alcohol.
In addition, consumers are urged to drink responsibly and avoid driving under the influence.
The RDB aims to strike a balance between festive enjoyment and community well-being.
These measures highlight the importance of responsible behavior among businesses and the public during this high-spirited season.

For further details, stakeholders are encouraged to adhere to the issued guidelines and cooperate with regulatory authorities to make this festive season enjoyable and safe for everyone.
