Investing in youth is investing in Africa’s future — Ambassador Nkurunziza Williams

Ambassador Nkurunziza Williams, the Commissioner for Media and Culture at the Pan African Movement, has emphasized that anyone thinking about Africa’s future must begin by equipping its youth with knowledge and opportunities.

He delivered this message Saturday 15, November 2025, during a visit to the Bashyamba mining site located in Kigali City’s Nyarugenge District, Kigali Sector.

Amb. Nkurunziza stressed that involving young people in initiatives like this is essential because they hold the power to shape the continent’s future.

“Today, 60% of Africa’s population is made up of young people,” he noted. “We want them to understand that Africa is rich in resources as we have seen here, and that they have the ability to transform these resources into economic opportunities through trade and entrepreneurship. This will help us achieve the Africa we aspire to build.”

He added that Africa’s development depends on stronger connections and collaboration among its people.

“What we want is for our youth to connect with other young Africans across the continent, to learn from one another, and to explore initiatives that advance society. This will help cultivate a culture of finding solutions from within,” he said.

Another aim of such visits, he explained, is to correct misconceptions about Rwanda, particularly the belief held by some that the country lacks mineral resources.

Bashyamba is the second-largest cassiterite mining site in Rwanda, covering 200 hectares. It has the capacity to produce at least 400 tons of ore annually, contributing significantly to the country’s tin production.

The Pan African Movement – Rwanda Chapter was established on April 23, 2015, by Rwandans committed to working with fellow Africans to promote dignity, unity, and self-reliance across the continent.
