We are dedicated to supporting cooperative initiatives that align with sustainable development goals and contribute to our nation’s overall progress.
In our curriculum at ICK’s Department of Rural and Urban Development, we prioritize cooperative management. Our students actively participate in field trips to local cooperatives, gaining practical insights into cooperative governance and operations.
These experiences are crucial for fostering their entrepreneurial spirit and understanding the cooperative business model’s impact on sustainable development.

Cooperatives and Sustainable Development
Cooperatives operate on principles of self-help, self-responsibility, equality, equity, and solidarity, with democratic member control and community concern at their core.
They are sustainable and successful enterprises, contributing significantly to decent employment, poverty reduction, education, social protection, and financial inclusion. Globally, approximately 3 million cooperatives employ or are owned by 10% of the world’s workforce, generating over $2.1 trillion in revenue.
Despite their impactful contributions, cooperatives face challenges such as insufficient data, complex legal environments, and limited access to financial resources. Addressing these challenges necessitates a supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem, encompassing clear regulations, access to education and training, and robust business networks.
