Ngororero: Prime Minister Visits Mineral Processing Plant

On Saturday, March 1, Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente visited a mineral processing plant specializing in Cassiterite and coltan in Ngororero District.

The visit was part of his official one-day working tour in the district.

The plant, Rukaragata Mining, is owned by British investor Ray Power and is located in Rukaragata Cell, Ngororero Sector.

Power explained that he chose to establish the plant in Rwanda due to the country’s stability and rich mineral resources.

“Rwanda has demonstrated remarkable progress in development and has a favorable investment climate,” he noted.

According to Power, the plant processes minerals extracted from Ngororero and has a capacity to refine at least 800 kilograms of minerals per day.

Local residents, such as Maurice Ndatimana, acknowledge the plant’s positive impact, particularly in job creation. “The factory provided us with employment opportunities, lifting many of us out of unemployment,” he said.

Rukaragata Mining began operations in Ngororero in January 2024 and is among several mineral processing plants operating in Rwanda.

The mining sector is a key contributor to Rwanda’s economy, generating over $1 billion annually since 2023.

A 2017 study identified 52 locations across the country with valuable mineral deposits. Rwanda estimates its underground mineral resources to be worth $154 billion.
