Kigali (ICK News) – Yesterday, December 13, 2024, Rwanda Media Programme (RMP) handed over essential hands-on equipment to Institut Catholique de Kabgayi (ICK) to enhance the operations of ICK News and provide practical training for journalism students.
The official event took place at Onomo Hotel and was attended by representatives from various journalism schools.

This initiative is part of the Rwanda Media Programme’s ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical skills for future journalists, enabling them to produce high-quality content and digital magazines.
The equipment provided to ICK includes: two iPhone 14 Pro Max (256GB, 6GB RAM) smartphones, one HP Desktop PC (Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD, 22” Monitor), two wireless microphones (compatible with iPhones), two smartphone tripods, one uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to support essential operations, one 2TB external hard drive for secure storage, and a power extension cable for equipment setup.
The materials were officially received by Jean de la Croix Tabaro, the mentor of journalism students at ICK, on behalf of the institution.
During the event, Anneli Frank, the International Programme Manager at the Swedish Fojo Media Institute, highlighted the importance of equipping students with tools that meet industry standards.
She emphasized that the journalism landscape has shifted towards digital platforms, making mobile journalism an essential skill for students to master.
In a follow-up event held on the morning of December 14, 2024, Tabaro Jean de la Croix formally handed over the equipment to the Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies at ICK, Jean Baptiste Hategekimana.

The Dean expressed gratitude towards RMP and highlighted the pivotal role these tools will play in strengthening student-led initiatives like ICK News.
This collaboration is formalized under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between RMP and ICK, which aims to; Enable students to practice mobile journalism using industry-standard tools, Enhance the diversity and quality of multimedia content produced by student magazines, Equip students with hands-on experience to prepare them for careers in modern media, and Bridge the gap between classroom theory and professional journalism practice.
The Rwanda Media Programme (2021–2026), funded by SIDA (Sweden) and SDC (Switzerland), focuses on capacity building and professionalizing media in Rwanda.
Through partnerships with institutions like ICK, it empowers journalism education, supports public-interest journalism, and connects students to local and international media networks.
