On Suturday, October 19, 2024, students studying Accounting and Finance at the Institut Catholique de Kabgayi (ICK) were motivated to enroll in CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and CAT (Certified Accounting Technician) courses.
This initiative aims to equip them with the skills needed to thrive in the job market.
The call to action came during a meeting organized by Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda(ICPAR), which regulates the accounting profession in the country.
Mr. Olivier Nsanzamahoro, the Principal examiner at ICPAR, emphasized the importance of these courses for students seeking to enhance their professional capabilities.

“Our goal is to visit universities across Rwanda that offer accounting and finance programs,” Nsanzamahoro stated. “We want to help students understand the benefits of pursuing these qualifications, which will facilitate their entry into the accounting profession.”
During the meeting, students learned about ICPAR’s collaboration with educational institutions to provide these vital courses.
Nsanzamahoro noted that colleges and universities express their interest in offering CPA and CAT courses by submitting applications to ICPAR, which then grants them the necessary permissions.
Dr. Marie Paul Dusingize, Dean of Faculty of Social, Economic Sciences and Business Management at ICK, discussed the anticipated impact of these courses.
“Offering CPA and CAT will strengthen our institution and attract more students, as these qualifications are in high demand,” she explained. “Previously, students faced challenges finding places to study these essential subjects.”
Dr. Dusingize reassured students concerned about the costs associated with the courses, emphasizing that the investment is worthwhile given the numerous employment opportunities they present.
Students expressed enthusiasm about the visit from ICPAR, which helped clarify the significance of the CPA and CAT qualifications.
Regine Nyinawumuntu shared her newfound understanding, stating, “I didn’t know much about these courses before, but now I realize how important studying CPA is for my future.”
Another student, Eric Ndayisaba, highlighted the international relevance of the CPA and CAT courses, saying, “Learning that these qualifications are recognized globally makes me eager to pursue them. I’m excited that ICK will be offering them, as it will make studying easier for us.”

With the support of ICPAR, ICK looks forward to officially launching these courses soon, positioning its students for success in the competitive job market.
