Ahazaza Honors Legacy with High Scores

Ahazaza Independent School, located in Muhanga District, proudly celebrates its academic achievements for the 2024–2025 school year, particularly in the Cambridge International Programme.

The school’s end-of-year celebration took place at its main campus in Muhanga Town and brought together a wide array of attendees, including Gilbert Mugabo, the Vice Mayor of Social Affairs for Muhanga District, members of the Ahazaza Nongovernment Organization, parents, and students as well.

The festive event featured vibrant performances by students across various disciplines, including modern and traditional Rwandan dances, music, fashion showcases, and martial arts demonstrations, among others.

Despite the profound loss of its founder, Raina Luff, in the end of 2024, the school remained resilient.

Its academic performance remained impressive, achieving a 94% success rate in the first term, 95% in the second term, and 96% in the third term.

In the Cambridge International Programme, students demonstrated strong academic proficiency, scoring 36 out of 50 in English, 41 out of 50 in Mathematics, and 37 out of 50 in Science.

Vice Mayor Gilbert Mugabo praised the school’s accomplishments, highlighting its growing reputation as a beacon of quality education.

“Ahazaza is more than just a school, it has become a center of academic excellence, grounded in the success of its alumni and the reputation it has built over the years. It is a wide-reaching community that provides holistic and meaningful education,” he said.

He further encouraged all stakeholders to continue supporting the institution to ensure it reaches even greater heights.

“As the school aspires to be ranked among the top three nationally within the next three years, it is our collective responsibility to help it achieve that goal,” he added.

Me. Aloys Hakizimana, Vice President of Ahazaza NGO

On behalf of the Organization, Me. Aloys Hakizimana, Vice President of Ahazaza NGO, acknowledged that the 2024–2025 academic year posed significant challenges but emphasized the school’s determination and courage in overcoming them.

“Replacing Raina was not an easy task. At some point, we doubted whether we could uphold her legacy. Yet, we prevailed, and this academic year turned out to be one of notable success, as you’ve witnessed today,” he said.

Parents of students at Ahazaza also commended the school, describing it as a model of excellence among Rwandan institutions.

Charles Ngamije, a parent with two children enrolled in Primary Three and Primary Five, said he chose Ahazaza because of its multi-curriculum approach.

He said “Very few schools offer a combination of the national curriculum, the Cambridge programme, and DELF (Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française). This provides children with diverse knowledge and a range of academic pathways.”

He added that Ahazaza goes beyond academics, “Above all, the children perform well academically and develop confidence, essential for applying their knowledge in today’s world.”

Kendra Sarah, another parent with two children enrolled, echoed his sentiments, emphasizing the school’s commitment to individual student development:

“Ahazaza follows up on every child. They ensure no one is left behind and strive to bring out the best in each learner. The school delivers beyond our expectations — things we didn’t even imagine they would offer, they already do. I hope they continue and go even further,” she commended the school’s effort.

Founded in 2006 by the late Raina Luff, Ahazaza Independent School continues to uphold her legacy of excellence, compassion, and transformative education.
