The Institut Catholique de Kabgayi (ICK) on Friday hosted a delegation from the U.S. embassy in Rwanda to discuss potential areas of collaboration between the two institutions.
The visitors, led by Public Affairs Officer Rachel Okunubi, were received by ICK Vice Chancellor, Father Prof. Fidèle Dushimimana, alongside senior administrators and faculty members.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on ICK’s history, academic achievements, and its role in Rwanda’s higher education landscape. Particular attention was given to the faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies, which was the main focus of the Embassy team’s tour.

Father Dushimimana expressed his delight in hosting the guests, noting that the embassy and ICK already share a history of cooperation.
“When we receive visitors like this, we know they come with the intention of strengthening our partnership and identifying new opportunities for collaboration,” He said.
He added that the U.S. Embassy delegation was especially interested in learning how the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies operates, how students are trained, and whether this could serve as a foundation for future joint initiatives.
“This was more of a fact-finding mission,” he explained. “They wanted to observe what we do, understand the state of journalism here, and later reflect on areas where we could work together.”
Rachel Okunubi, Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Kigali, commended the university’s growing campus and reaffirmed the embassy’s commitment to refreshing its longstanding relationship with ICK.
“The visit aimed to update on campus developments and faculty priorities to align with future embassy plans,” she said.

Okunubi also encouraged aspiring journalists at ICK News to continue developing their skills and to make use of American educational resources available through social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).
As part of their tour, the delegation visited the ICK English Resource Center, established by the U.S. Embassy in 2009, which continues to provide students with valuable opportunities to strengthen their English language skills.
Okunubi further highlighted upcoming embassy visits across Rwanda under the America 250 campaign, aimed at sharing resources and deepening ties between Rwandan institutions and the United States.
