Kigali, July 7, 2025 — The Ministry of Education has announced that the 2024/2025 Secondary National Examinations will officially begin on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
The examinations, which will run until July 18, are coordinated by the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) and will be conducted in 1,595 examination centers across the country.
This year, a total of 255,498 candidates are expected to sit for the national exams at both Ordinary Level (O-Level) and Advanced Level (A-Level).
At the Ordinary Level, 149,134 candidates have registered, including 82,412 girls and 66,722 boys. These examinations will take place in 715 centers nationwide.
At the Advanced Level, 106,364 candidates have been registered. Among them are 101,081 school-based candidates, with 55,435 girls and 45,646 boys, as well as 5,283 private candidates, including 3,382 girls and 1,901 boys.
A-Level national examinations will be administered in 880 centers across Rwanda.
In line with the government’s commitment to inclusive education, NESA will provide specialized support to candidates with various disabilities.
This year, support will be extended to 459 O-Level candidates and 323 A-Level candidates with disabilities.
The assistance includes Braille and large-print exam papers, the use of assistive devices, and extended time allowances during examinations to ensure all students are given equal opportunities.
The A-Level candidates are enrolled across various education streams, including general education, professional education, and technical secondary schools.
General education accounts for 61,882 candidates, while professional education has 8,228 candidates.
Technical secondary schools will present 36,254 candidates for the national examinations.
The Ministry of Education and NESA reaffirmed their readiness to conduct credible, inclusive, and efficient examinations, and they called on all stakeholders to support this important national exercise.
