Lecturers and researchers at the Institut Catholique de Kabgayi (ICK) have been encouraged to strengthen international partnerships and improve their scientific publishing skills to increase the global visibility of their research.
The call was made during a workshop held at ICK on 26 October 2026, aimed at equipping lecturers and researchers with the knowledge and skills needed to prepare scientific articles and navigate the publication process.
The training was led by Dr. Carole Sargent, Director of Scholarly Publications at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., United States.

Lecturers and researchers at the Catholic Institute of Kabgayi (ICK) have been encouraged to strengthen international partnerships and improve their scientific publishing skills to increase the global visibility of their research.
Dr. Sargent said Rwandan researchers play an important role in advancing knowledge but need greater international recognition and stronger connections with researchers and academic institutions abroad.
She emphasised the importance of identifying partners interested in Rwanda and its research as a way of bringing local knowledge to the international stage.
During the session, Dr. Sargent also guided ICK lecturers and researchers through the scientific publishing process, from developing an initial research idea to preparing an article for submission and securing publication acceptance.
“Partnership is at the heart of everything. When partners are interested in you and in Rwanda, they are willing to work with you to ensure your research gains visibility,” she said.
Viateur Gahamanyi, one of the lecturers who attended the workshop, described the training as timely and beneficial.
“This training was necessary. We have gained a great deal of knowledge because, as academics and researchers, conducting and publishing research is one of the key contributions expected of us in advancing knowledge,” he said.

The workshop highlighted the importance of producing quality research and sharing findings through international academic networks to strengthen the contribution of Rwandan researchers to global discussions.
ICK researchers are the first group to receive the training among five universities in Rwanda where Dr. Sargent plans to deliver the programme.
