The University of Rwanda (UR) held its 10th Graduation Ceremony today, October 25, 2024, celebrating the achievements of 8,068 graduates across various academic programs and levels. The event took place at the university’s stadium in Huye, drawing proud parents and family members who filled the venue with excitement.
Among the graduates, 53 received doctoral degrees (PhDs), 946 earned master’s degrees, and 6,657 completed their undergraduate studies. This diverse cohort includes students from both Rwanda and other countries, reflecting the university’s broad reach.

Prime Minister Eduard Ngirente, the ceremony’s chief guest, emphasized the importance of patriotism and integrity. “As you graduate today, I urge you to uphold these values. Think big, seek innovative solutions, and engage in projects that benefit both yourselves and our nation,” he said. “Remember that the positive transformation of our country begins with you. Seize every opportunity that comes your way, as your success is intertwined with the development of our nation.”
Vice Chancellor Prof. Muganga Kayihura Didas praised the university’s commitment to producing skilled professionals for the job market. “This ceremony signifies not just the end of your studies, but also the overcoming of challenges that have prepared you to be the leaders and experts of tomorrow,” he remarked.
Since its establishment in 2013 through the merger of the National University of Rwanda and six other institutions, UR has seen over 80,000 students graduate. With a current enrollment exceeding 30,000 across six colleges, the university offers up to 87 undergraduate programs, continuing to play a crucial role in Rwanda’s educational landscape.
