President Kagame Swears in New Government Leaders

On Monday, December 23, 2024, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda received the oaths of office from three newly appointed leaders in the government.

The officials taking the oath included Nelly Mukazayire, who was appointed Minister of Sports, replacing Eng.Richard Nyirishema, who held the position since August 2024.

Also sworn in was Rwego Ngarambe, who became the first-ever Minister of State in the Ministry of Sports. Finally, Godfrey Kabera took the oath as Minister of State in charge of the National Treasury, succeeding Richard Tusabe.

During the ceremony, President Kagame reminded the new leaders that their oaths should not be mere formalities but should carry significant weight.

“An oath is not just a formality; it carries its own weight and aligns with the work to be done.” he emphasized.

He added that those taking on such roles must understand that the weight of their duties should be felt both intellectually and emotionally, ensuring that their commitment to the responsibilities is genuine.

“It’s clear that when you’re entrusted with a position, you should understand that the responsibility is not only yours but that your election to the role adds even more gravity to the task.”

The president further stressed that once in office, there should be no need for justifications for not fulfilling one’s duties.

Nelly Mukazayire, was previously the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Sports, before that she was serving as the Deputy CEO of Rwanda Development Board (RDB).

Rwego Ngarambe, now state minister in the Ministry of Sports, has extensive experience in sports law and was a member of Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA).

Godfrey Kabera, previously the Director of Planning and Research at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, brings his expertise to the role of State Secretary for Public Finance.
