In a powerful and poignant address marking the 30th anniversary of Rwanda’s liberation, President Paul Kagame reiterated the country’s commitment to peace and unity, emphasizing that Rwanda will remain peaceful no matter the circumstances.
Speaking at the Kwibohora 30 celebrations on July 4, President Kagame reflected on the nation’s progress since the Rwandan Patriotic Army (APR) ended the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and took control three decades ago.

President Kagame acknowledged the sacrifices and resilience of the Rwandan people, stating, “Today we come to the end of our period of commemoration and celebrate the liberation of our country.”
He extended his gratitude to the guests and friends who joined in the celebrations, underscoring the collective strength and unity that Rwandans exhibit today. “Rwandans today are better and stronger than we have ever been,” he remarked.
Reflecting on the country’s tumultuous past, President Kagame highlighted the crucial role of the Rwandan Patriotic Army in saving countless lives and restoring hope during the genocide.

He commended the army and security forces for their unwavering dedication and professionalism, which have earned them high trust among Rwandans in opinion surveys. “Our army and security forces are a powerful symbol of unity and safety,” he noted.
President Kagame’s address also touched on the significant infrastructural developments and improvements in citizens’ welfare. The newly renovated Amahoro Stadium, where the celebrations took place, symbolizes these advancements.
He proudly declared that Rwanda has built “a government that works for all without discrimination” and a political system that no longer uses politics as a tool for exclusion or animosity.

Despite the achievements, President Kagame acknowledged the challenges posed by external forces that do not understand or support Rwanda’s progress.
He emphasized that these negative influences would not succeed, asserting, “a few people outside (of Rwanda) still do not understand Rwandans,” and adding that “some of them even try to spoil what we’re building and we see it, but all those negative efforts produce no result.”
The President’s speech resonated deeply with the ongoing tensions between Rwanda and neighboring countries such as DR Congo and Burundi.
He reaffirmed Rwanda’s peaceful stance, stating that peace is “a choice Rwandans have made” and emphasizing the importance of living harmoniously with those who share the same desire for peace.
As Rwanda celebrates this milestone, President Kagame’s message is clear: the nation is committed to sustaining the hard-earned peace and unity, continuing on a path of development and inclusivity.
His leadership and vision have been instrumental in transforming Rwanda into a beacon of hope and resilience, setting a strong foundation for future generations to build upon.
