Muhanga: Citizens urged to participate in planning process

During the monthly community work held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, residents of Muhanga District were reminded of their vital role in participating in the planning processes that impact their lives.

This message was delivered by Jean Paul Musabyimana, a representative of the Ministry of Local Government, during the event held in Remera Cell, Muhanga Sector.

Musabyimana emphasized the importance of this engagement as part of a national awareness campaign launched on November 12, 2024, by the Ministry of Local Government.

The campaign aims to involve citizens in discussions on planning, budgeting, and performance contracts.

He stated, “This initiative began on November 1 in all cells nationwide, with a national-level launch on November 12. Its purpose is to explain to citizens the components of the second phase of the National Strategy for Transformation (NST2), which aims to accelerate development over the next five years.”

Musabyimana added, “The other objective is to review and demonstrate to citizens how their ideas and proposals were incorporated into the last seven-year term of the President of the Republic.”

He noted that current data shows that 70% of citizens are satisfied with the implementation of their ideas and suggestions. However, the target is to achieve 90% satisfaction.

The November Umuganda in Muhanga District focused on activities aimed at combating soil erosion and promoting sustainable agriculture.

Key activities included constructing and rehabilitating contour plowing across 10 hectares of farmland and planting agroforestry trees.

Additionally, during this community work, some residents underwent screening for non-communicable diseases.

The screenings targeted women above 35 years and men above 40 years, conducted in collaboration with Mata Health Center.
