On Wednesday, December 18, Mgr. Pascal Ide visited the Institut Catholique de Kabgayi (ICK) and was warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor, Father Prof. Fidèle Dushimimana, alongside Father Dr. Jean Marie Vianney Samarwa, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Administration and Finance.
Accompanying Mgr. Ide were Madame Violaine Houin, Mission Officer to Mgr. Pascal Ide and Delegate of the Bishops of the Ecclesiastical Province of Paris for Foreign Priests, and Father Jean Claude Niyonzima of the Kabgayi Diocese.
During the visit, discussions between Mgr. Ide and Father Prof. Dushimimana centered on sharing insights about the operations of Catholic universities in Rwanda, the academic programs they offer, their uniqueness compared to other Rwandan universities, and various aspects of Catholic education in the country.
Father Prof. Dushimimana highlighted the significance of Mgr. Ide’s visit, noting its potential to pave the way for collaboration between ICK and French universities, particularly the Institut Catholique de Paris.

In his remarks, Mgr. Pascal Ide expressed admiration for ICK’s mission, stating: “What a beautiful work! Education shapes individuals and opens their future. It sows seeds that will bear fruit for a lifetime! May the Spirit of Truth bless you abundantly.”
Who is Mgr. Pascal Ide?
Mgr. Pascal Ide is a Catholic priest from the Diocese of Paris, a medical doctor, and holds doctorates in both philosophy and theology.
Born in 1957, he deepened his faith during a retreat at the Foyer de Charité of Marthe Robin in 1974.
His passion for science led him to complete a doctoral thesis in medicine in 1985 at Paris VI University, titled “Perspectives on Medicine and Christian Philosophy: Toward Personalized Medical Wisdom.”
Following a retreat in Paray-le-Monial, he was ordained a priest by Mgr. Jean-Marie Lustiger on June 30, 1990.
He later earned a doctorate in philosophy in 1991 at Paris IV with a dissertation titled “The Inner Wound: A Theoretical Approach” under the supervision of Janine Chanteur.
In 2009, Mgr. Ide completed a doctorate in theology at the Institut Catholique de Paris, focusing on “The Gift in the Trilogy of Hans Urs von Balthasar” under the guidance of Vincent Holzer.
A member of the Emmanuel Community, Mgr. Ide served as the head of French-speaking Catholic universities worldwide for 13 years, beginning in March 2008, working with the Congregation for Catholic Education in Rome.
Since 2021, he has been a delegate of the bishops of Île-de-France for foreign priests studying in the region, a lecturer at the Collège des Bernardins, and a vicar at the Saint-François-Xavier parish in Paris.
