This Saturday, November 23, the student electoral college in ICK will elect a new student representative committee for the 2024-2025 academic year, replacing the outgoing leadership.
The election will utilize a newly introduced online voting system, designed to improve student participation.
The online polling stations will open at 8:00 AM and close at 2:00 PM, with each class represented by a three-student committee.
Outgoing Guild President Cedric Niyonkuru highlighted the importance of this digital transition, citing challenges faced in previous elections.
“We have seen cases where students missed out on voting because they were far from campus during the election period. The online system is a solution to this, allowing everyone to cast their vote from anywhere,” Niyonkuru said.

The system’s design ensures simplicity and fairness. Each voter will receive a unique code, sent alongside the voting schedule and a link to access the platform. This code, valid for a single use, guarantees secure and transparent voting.
According to Niyonkuru, the system automatically tallies votes as soon as polling ends, identifying the winners instantly. However, official results will be announced at 3:00 PM to maintain procedural clarity.
Niyonkuru addressed concerns about potential technical issues, assuring voters of the system’s resilience.
“If a device loses internet or runs out of battery, the system allows voters to resume from where they stopped without restarting the process,” he explained.
As the election draws closer, Niyonkuru urged students to make thoughtful decisions.
“Choose leaders who will truly serve you and address the challenges you face daily,” he advised.
To ensure a smooth experience, support contacts will be available for voters encountering technical difficulties.
The electoral college comprises 180 students, and 24 positions are being contested, including three new roles that were not part of the previous committee structure.
